Butterfly

By Aria Eliot

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To live a life on jagged lines
To dance and twirl through space and time
To feel the breath of unseen things
And bask in pain that hatred brings
To shatter windows, panes of glass
To render mirrors slag and ash
To gaze upon yourself and see
A perfect wretch, monstrosity

To live a life in shadowed haze
Ever hiding from their gaze
To cower and whimper as they pass
A pathetic, twitching, worthless mass
To feel the hate you know must be
Just beyond what you can see
To gaze upon yourself and cry
A lifeless bitch, waiting to die

To live a life on shaky ground
Stability that can’t be found
To plant your feet with gritted teeth
To make life grow upon the heath
To dig in deep with tooth and claw
‘Til arms are spent and throat is raw
To gaze upon yourself and yearn
There’s so much left for you to learn

To live a life that’s soft and warm
To welcome love with open arms
To gaze upon the rising sun
To greet the dawn with joy for once
To suck the marrow from life’s bones
To know that you are not alone
To gaze upon yourself and know
You’ve only just begun to grow

To live a life without regret
To leave the past and not forget
To live a life for love, for friends
To savor all before it ends
To feel at peace like not before
To smile and open up your door
A dream it is, but not a lie
You’re growing still, a butterfly
